The final list of top 50 hospitals in US has been made after analyzing over 4,500 hospitals across the nation for 32 procedures and conditions, including stroke, sepsis, respiratory failure, pneumonia, heart failure, and heart attack. According to the survey, patients that are treated in these 50 hospitals have a 26.6 % reduced risk of losing their lives than if they were to be treated in other hospitals that did not make it to the top 50 list. If hospitals all over the country were to perform at a level on par with the top 50 hospitals that made the cut, it could potentially save over 161,930 lives on average. For instance, patients treated for cardiac arrest in Healthgrades’ top 50 hospitals have a 23.4 % (on average) lower risk of dying than if they were to be treated in those hospitals that did not make it to the America’s top 50 hospitals list.
During the 2020 analysis period, these hospitals were able to perform with flying colors in clinical outcomes for the medicare population, with over at least 21 out of 32 common inpatient procedures and conditions. This is a measurement procured through objective performance data covering in-hospital complications and risk adjusted mortality. It has become more important than ever to conduct research with due diligence before settling for the right hospital.
