An accountable care organization (ACO) is an organization formed by a group of coordinated healthcare practitioners including hospitals, physicians and other medical professionals and healthcare providers. As an organization, ACO is accountable to the population for the quality and cost of services it provides to Medicare patients enrolled in the fee-for-service program.
