Also known as hebiatrics, adolescent medicine refers to the medical subspecialty that offers care to patients who are in their adolescence stage. Adolescence is a transitional stage between childhood and adulthood. During this stag physical, psychological and social change takes place in a teenager. Changes such as body growth, sexual maturity, etc. are common in adolescent years. However, it is also the time when various illnesses come upfront for the first time. And to help them in addressing their new health developments and concerns, adolescence specialists play a vital role. They have education and training in adolescent medicine that enables them to offer specialized care and attention to teenagers during their growing stage.

A teenager faces many issues during the adolescent stage including menstrual disorders, delayed puberty, mental illness, unwanted pregnancy, sexually transmitted disease, eating disorders, acne, etc.
