Equipment that a healthcare provider needs for everyday delivery of care to patients are known as durable medical equipment (DME). It includes equipment such as walkers, wheelchairs, lifts, nebulizers, kidney machines, ventilators, crutches, monitors, oxygen equipment, etc. These equipment offer therapeutic relief to patients in need during specific medical conditions.

Durable Medical Equipment is of no use in the absence of medical illness and is most appropriate for home use. Doctors prescribe the use of DME to patients only when they require.
