A healthcare professional who uses touch therapy to manipulate the soft-tissue muscles of the human body to relieve patients of their pain, help them get rid of stress and relax, and provide rehabilitation from injuries.

Besides these, massage therapists also help in improving blood circulation, rehabilitation of injuries, and ensure the general well-being of patients. The typical duties of a massage therapist include patient evaluation to locate the pain area, check symptoms, track medical history, manipulate muscles of the body, provide right posture guidance, and document the client’s health progress. These therapists make use of their hands, elbows, fingers, forearms, and in some cases, use feet for kneading soft tissues and body muscles. For the massage, therapists commonly use oils and lotions and massage chairs or tables.

There are various specialties of massages, such as sports massage, Swedish massage, deep-tissue massage, etc. Depending on the type of massage, the techniques that therapists use may differ.
